Wake finds himself in the middle of his next novel that he hadn’t begun and things take a turn for the worse. The Official Movie Novelization. Sometimes Wake finds a radio in a vacant cabin, an old car, or wherever and he listens to the local night radio broadcast. But, it does provide a great companion piece to the original experience, and I think fans will find something great in these pages. The entity has been waiting patiently for someone with a strong creative mind that it can use to free itself from its lightless prison at the bottom of the lake.

One thing that I wish the author, Rick Burroughs, would have done is add more additional content than just retelling the exact same story as the game. It’s a psychological thriller that twists and turns and is far from any other story I’ve ever heard.

A series of strange events lead to Wake sake up behind the wheel of his crashed vehicle, alone, and coming across pages for a manuscript he doesn’t remember writing. It makes a lot of sense considering the character’s circumstances and his general disdain for society at large.

The reason why I personally enjoyed reading this book so much is that Alan Wake is my favorite game of all time, and it was easy for me to picture exactly what was going on throughout the whole novel. The thing that makes horror video games so scary, often more so than a book, film, or some other form of storytelling, is the fact that you are in control.

He did add a few additional details which added slightly, but for the most part he retold the story almost word for word from the game. There is a bit more explaining the Thomas Zane-Alan Wake connection in the book than I remember being in the game. I get how the game revels in all the cliches of various genres, but they don’t come off as humorous in the book.

Game tie-ins and spin-offs can be plodding, pointless, and offensive.

I was hugely impressed with the character written into the dialogue. Thankfully, the last third of the book gets better, where the story becomes more complex and nearing its conclusion which is a bit anti-climatic for fans of the game. The book should have been better, but the writing is really terrible. While we never spend any real time with Stucky, the first Taken whom Wake kills, we do see a fair amount of discourse between Wake and Rusty, and many others.

I enjoyed reading Alan Wake, but my review will probably be somewhat biased because I cannot help but to compare it to the xbox game. The book did a fine job of telling the story of the video game, but it was also pretty clear that it was the author’s first novel. And I have found the answer. Every time Wake found himself being hunted in the dark woods in the middle of the night I could picture the beautiful eastern woodland landscape and it sent a ch I enjoyed reading Alan Wake, but my review will probably be somewhat biased because I cannot help but to compare it to the xbox game.

Dec 30, Samie Foster rated it it was ok. Want to Read Currently Reading Read. I very much enjoyed the game because it took me away from the “Call of Duty” genre, which is basically shooting things. This is as good as it gets as a gateway into supernatural horror writers like King, Kuntz, and Barker.

My hopes where high however don’t expect to read anything new or that adds to the story you already know.
